New documentation
New docs, same tool
We finally wrote some documentation for Designer Tools. It’s not big, but it should help you make better use of the extension. It might also help you think a bit more clearly about design.
What’s Inside
The docs are split into two parts:
- Using Designer Tools is a feature-by-feature breakdown of how things work. Want to know how to compare elements, snap rulers, or measure spacing between multiple items?
- Design Principles contains short, opinionated reads about what makes good interface design. Why you probably don’t need twelve text styles. How to pick colors that people can actually read. What makes a type system feel calm instead of chaotic.
Why Bother?
The extension has been around since 2018. We never really documented it, mostly because it was simple enough to just use. But that only works for people already familiar with it.
This new content makes it easier to share with your team, onboard someone new, or just figure out what that one feature does that you’ve never clicked.
More to Come
There’s more we’d like to write about: layout, spacing, contrast, button hierarchy. If that sounds like something you’d read, let us know.
For now, take a look around the docs. You might find something useful, or at least something to argue with.
